Letter to the Editor
Daily Telegraph - Tuesday, 10 June 2003
Dear Sir,
Adam Nicolson (Article 10/6) repeats the facile fallacy that the nation state is dead, and that democracy can somehow be transposed to the European level.
In response, I quote John Stuart Mill: “Where peoples lack fellow feeling, and especially where they speak and read different languages, the common public opinion necessary for representative government, cannot exist”. Q.E.D.
Yours sincerely,
Roger Helmer MEP
