Letter to the Editor
Lincolnshire Echo - Monday, 1 December 2003
Dear Sir,
Lib-Dem MEP Bill Newton Dunn sets out to de-bunk accusations that the EU is full of "crackpot suggestions" (article, Nov 26th). He says they are like the famous "straight bananas" story, and denies there ever was such an EU law.
But as Bill very well knows, or at least ought to know, there is indeed an EU law governing the curvature of bananas. It is called Commission Regulation EC No. 2257/94.
Euro-luvvies constantly refer to "straight bananas" as an example of an EU story which, they say, is obviously false. But they're wrong. It's true.
Yours faithfully,
Roger Helmer MEP
