Letter to the Editor
The Daily Telegraph - Wednesday 11th January 2006
Dear Sir,
The BBC's blatant bias on green issues is showing again. Six Asia-Pacific countries, including the USA and Japan, are currently meeting in Australia to develop strategies for reducing pollution and greenhouse gas emissions. With monotonous regularity, BBC news reports describe these countries as "the world's biggest polluters". But this is true only in the sense that they happen also to be the world's largest economies, so inevitably they are large energy users. In terms of energy intensity -- energy used per unit of output -- they are amongst the best in the world.
So it would be equally valid to describe them as "the world's most efficient energy users", or indeed "the world's cleanest economies". How about it, BBC?
Yours faithfully
Roger Helmer MEP
