Letter to the Editor
Lincolnshire Echo - Wednesday 23rd October 2002
Dear Sir
Bill Newton-Dunn, the turncoat MEP, did little to enhance his reputation for veracity when he left the Conservatives for the Liberals, having earlier secured his selection as a Conservative candidate by claiming to be fully in support of Conservative policy on the Euro.
However, his article (October 14) represents an even greater travesty of the truth. He says that the Tories at their Bournemouth conference "were in utter turmoil. No policies, no young members, no finance and no leadership". As his wife Anna (who remains a Conservative) was at the Tory Conference, he should have been better informed.
It was well organised. It was thronging with young people. A wide range of credible and attractive new policies were announced, covering health, education and crime. And as for finance and leadership, we seem to be doing rather better than the Lib-Dems.
Newton-Dunn really does nothing to enhance his credibility by announcing the direct opposite of the truth.
Yours sincerely,
Roger Helmer MEP
