Countryside March a Success
Tuesday, September 24th 2002
East Midlands Conservative MEPs Roger Helmer and Chris Heaton-Harris have hailed the Liberty and Livelihood March held in London on Sunday as a success.
Over 400,000 people attended the March including twenty-two Conservative MEPs. Both East Midlands Euro-MPs Roger Helmer and Chris Heaton-Harris were in London to give their full support to the Countryside Alliance who organised the March to highlight rural issues and protest against the proposed ban on foxhunting.
Speaking after the March Euro-MP Roger Helmer said :
"I hope Tony Blair was listening to the voice of the British countryside.
This March was about country sports, about a range of rural interests, and about this Government’s contempt for the countryside, but above all it was about protecting civil liberties and rural traditions."
