Tory courts trouble
Nirj Deva, former Tory MP and now MEP for South East England, is facing censure after attacking his party for expelling his colleague Roger Helmer for signing a motion about the behaviour of European Commission President Jose Manuel Barroso.
"I am appalled at the high-handedness, the lack of political awareness and the victimisation of Roger Helmer who has consistently, bravely and loyally stood up for British interests in the European Parliament," Deva thunders in his monthly newsletter.
"What has happened to Roger blows apart the agreement that Michael Howard and Michael Ancram made with the European People's Party and no one in London, Central Office or Westminster appears to care a damn."
Deva encourages his devotees to oppose Helmer's defenestration, declaring: "This matter must be settled if our party is to make progress."
I would have thought Deva's own personal progress will be derailed by his outburst.
