Derbyshire’s global Scout gathering supported by MEP
Thursday, 11th August 2005
With over 6000 campers and staff from all over the world, Peak 2005 is one of the largest events of its kind, bringing together children from as far way as Japan, Canada and America with local scouts and guides from Derbyshire.
The camp hosted a vast activity programme for Guides and Scouts aged between 10 and 14 years and gave them the opportunity to participate in activities such as abseiling, canoeing to woggle making.
Mr Helmer's visit included a tour of the campsite and the opportunity to meet a wide variety of Scouts and Guides from all over Europe and the wider world. Other guests enjoying the camp included the Vicar of Chesterfield and the Lord Lieutenant of Derbyshire and his wife.
Speaking after the event, Mr Helmer said:
"Sadly I was never a cub or scout, but I was delighted to have an opportunity to catch up with Scouting at Chatsworth. This was a superbly organised event, four years in the planning. It has been a tremendous experience for all the campers, who will have made new friends and will take away many happy memories".
