Leicestershire - Conservative MEP for Leicestershire, Roger Helmer was at Foxton Locks on Sunday to take part in the Inland Waterways Association "Diamond Jubilee celebrations".
Mr Helmer, along with local councillor Brian Smith and local enthusiasts joined the narrow-boat "Jubilee" at North Kilworth and were aboard for its trip along the Grand Union Canal to the top of Foxton Locks, in Leicestershire.
The journey was part of the "Jubilee's" twelve month voyage along the entire length of the nation's waterways, culminating at the IWA's National Festival & Boat Show at Beale Park on the Thames in August.
Speaking after the visit, Mr Helmer said:
"It was only fifteen or twenty years ago that the canal system was threatened by long-term neglect and dereliction. I am delighted that there has been a complete turn-around, with more and more people using the network, which has become a vital part of our landscape and our tourism infrastructure. I wish the IWA another successful fifty years".
