Stop Brown's NHS Cuts!

Monday, 16th October 2006

Northamptonshire – East Midlands Conservative MEPs Roger Helmer and Chris Heaton-Harris today joined forces with local Conservatives from across Northamptonshire to launch a campaign against Gordon Brown's plans to make drastic and sweeping cuts to local NHS services

Conservatives in Northampton are backing David Cameron's new, national campaign to underline Conservative support for the staff of our NHS and the patients they serve. The NHS ended the last financial year with deficits amounting to £1.3 billion and Gordon Brown has now ordered drastic and short-sighted NHS cuts which will have a direct impact on Northampton General Hospital.

Labour’s continual mismanagement of the NHS has seen patients being discharged too early, training budgets slashed and trainee doctors and nurses facing unemployment. On top of this, The Royal College of Nursing has estimated that 18,000 jobs have been cut from NHS hospitals in recent months, as well as over 81 community hospitals threatened by cutbacks or closure and the loss of 12,500 NHS beds in just three years– a cut in capacity of 7 per cent.

Speaking today, Chris Heaton-Harris MEP for Northamptonshire said:

“We want everyone to show their support for the NHS and those who work in it by signing our petition calling on Gordon Brown to end his financial mismanagement of the NHS – and Stop Brown's NHS Cuts”

David Mackintosh, Chairman of Northampton North Conservatives said:

“This campaign is important to show people that we fully support the NHS and our hard-working doctors, nurses and hospital staff but things need to change. Gordon Brown’s mismanagement has to stop.”
