Visit to Noble Cars

Monday, 27th February 2006

Hinckley – Leicestershire’s Conservative MEP Roger Helmer was in Barwell, Leicestershire to visit flourishing sports-car company, Noble Cars Ltd.

Noble Automotives is run primarily by Company Managing Director and Chief Designer, Lee Noble. Mr Noble has been involved in the sports car business for over 20 years, working on projects such as the iconic McLaren F1 supercar. He has been building cars that bear his name at the Barwell site for the last five years, which now has an annual production rate of over 200 cars per years.

During the visit, Mr Helmer met with Mr Noble to discuss new proposed type-approval European legislation and its implications for smaller, local businesses, before viewing the Noble M400 beside which he is pictured.

The Noble M400 is the most powerful production model Noble have built. Its 3.0-litre, twin-turbocharged engine generates 425bhp and allows the car to accelerate from 0-60mph in 3.5 seconds, with a top speed of 180mph.

Speaking after his visit, Mr Helmer said:

“I was delighted to have the opportunity to visit Noble cars, in Barwell to discuss the new European proposals. So often European legislation can have quite unintended or damaging consequences for local businesses, especially when laws designed for major manufacturers are applied to niche players. I am always pleased when I manage to spot possible issues at an early stage, with time to sort them out."
