Melton twinning event a big success

Monday, 17th October 2005

Melton – East Midlands Conservative MEP Roger Helmer was this week a key note speaker at a Town Twinning event at Melton Community College, held to celebrate Melton’s links with Sochaczew in Poland.

The day kicked off with music from accomplished pianist Marta Guzik, who had accompanied a Polish group to the event, before Mr Helmer addressed the audience on EU environmental policy. The event was well attended by local dignitaries including the Mayor of Melton, Cllr Pat Cumbers.

Speaking to a mainly Polish audience and referring to the recent Polish elections, Mr Helmer said: "To those of you who voted Law & Justice in the recent general election, Well Done! Fantastic Result! And to the rest of you... Maybe next time?"

While at the event, Mr Helmer also met with representatives from exciting new local radio station, The Eye 973FM, the Vale of Belvoir's own permanent full-time local radio station.
