Save our historic place names

Local Tory MEP Roger Helmer has ridiculed a call by an EU official for Britain to stop using names like Waterloo Station and Trafalgar Square.
The EU's Investment Fund chief Francis Carpenter, incredibly a Brit himself, said that the names Waterloo and Trafalgar, commemorating famous British victories over the French, should be eliminated in case French tourists should be offended. Carpenter even suggested re-naming Waterloo Station as "Europe Station".
This could mean that Waterloo Way in Leicester will have to be renamed if the British official gets his way.
Commenting on the official's call, Roger Helmer said:
"When will EU officials stop shooting themselves in the foot? Ridiculous proposals like this bring the whole EU project into disrepute. If we change Waterloo Station to Europe Station, presumably we'll have to change Waterloo Way in Leicester too. And woe betide any pub called the Lord Nelson!".
